چکیده

Three simple mesh examples are presented to show that neither Delaunay nor strictly non-obtuse mesh elements are required for a finite element computation. Mesh requirements based on a recent condition given in literature are investigated to guarantee certain properties of the resulting stiffness matrix. The experiments are conducted using a general finite element and finite volume solver.

The experiments are conducted using a general nite element and nite volume solver.

An Introduction to Mesh Quality

The issue of mesh quality for unstructured triangular and tetrahedral meshes is considered. The theoretical background to finite element methods is used to understand the basis of present-day geometrical mesh quality indicators. Simple tetrahedral mesh quality measures using both geometrical and solution information are described. Some of the issues in mesh quality for unstructured tetrahedral ...

A Multiscale Finite Element Method for Numerical Homogenization

This paper is concerned with a multiscale finite element method for numerically solving second order scalar elliptic boundary value problems with highly oscillating coefficients. In the spirit of previous other works, our method is based on the coupling of a coarse global mesh and of a fine local mesh, the latter one being used for computing independently an adapted finite element basis for the...

Cover interpolation functions and h-enrichment in finite element method

This paper presents a method to improve the generation of meshes and the accuracy of numerical solutions of elasticity problems, in which two techniques of h-refinement and enrichment are used by interpolation cover functions. Initially, regions which possess desired accuracy are detected. Mesh improvment is done through h-refinement for the elements existing in those regions. Total error of th...

3D NOffset mixed-element mesh generator approach

In this paper we present a new approach to generate a mixed mesh with elements aligned to boundary/interfaces wherever is required. A valid element is: (a) any convex co-spherical element that fulfills the requirements of the underlying numerical method and (b) any element that satisfies domain specific geometric features of the model. The algorithm is based on the normal offsetting approach to...
